- Fort Darling - Heavy fire from the confederate guns of Ft. Darling on Drewry's Bluff defeated the Federal naval effort to reach Richmond via the James River. The Union Gun-Boat Flotilla was commanded by Commander John Rogers of 'Monitor vs Virginia' fame. This Line engraving published in "Harper's Weekly", January-June 1862, page 337, depicts the USS Galena at the head of the attacking force with USS Monitor off her starboard quarter. Among the other ships, the gunboat Naugatuck is identifiable in the lower right. The city of Richmond, Virginia, is in the distance up the river. - Fort Darling, Drewry's Bluff, Va.
