Vicksburg, Mississippi ~ The Shirley House
The siege of Vicksburg lasted from May 19th to July 4th 1863. Most of the battle took place in front of the Shirley House in Mississippi. The Confederate Army and the Union Army both dug trenches on either side of the Shirley Home. Many soldiers took refuge on the Shirley House because they were wounded.
