Waud was a war correspondent and artist for "Harper's Weekly" who sketched the Civil War. Among other scenes, Waud sketched Picket's charge at the battle of Gettysburg. In this photo by Mathew Brady, shows Waud sketching the federal retreat before forces of Gen. John Bell Hood from the Devil' s Den on the July 2nd. (Sketches)
